COVID-19 and Your Water

While there is no connection currently between the coronavirus and drinking water, the virus that causes COVID-19 has been found in untreated wastewater. Researchers do not know whether this virus can cause disease if a person is exposed to untreated wastewater or sewerage systems. There is no evidence to date that this has occurred. At this time, the risk of transmission of the virus that causes COVID-19 through properly designed and maintained sewerage systems is thought to be low.

While potable water is still considered safe, at the very least your municipal water districts will be adding additional disinfectants just to be extra cautious. That means greater amounts of chlorine and chloramines that makes your water smell and taste bad. These chemicals are also extremely hard on your plumbing system causing pinhole leaks and other plumbing problems.
